I want this website to be less about me and more about the central character of my books - Danny Rook. But first, just a few words of thanks to David Boyle at publishers, The Real Press, who had confidence that Danny might be able to tell another side of the story of what, for the last 70-odd years, we have called the Cold War. Perhaps now, we should re-name those times, Cold War One.
If YOU can directly remember the Munich air disaster, or Khrushchev pounding his shoe on the desk at the United Nations, the Cuban missile crisis or the assassination of U.S. President John Fitzgerald Kennedy... or if you don't quite remember those events, but remember singing 'Yeah, Yeah, Yeah' when The Beatles first released She Loves You then the Danny Rook books are for you.
Don't quit too early though. If you only heard about those world-shattering events from your parents or teachers, but you remember the Falklands War or 'Supergun', then the Danny Rook books are still for you.
And if you don't really remember any of those things, then perhaps getting a flavour of those years by seeing them through Danny's eyes could be even more important for you... You see, those times are the reason why the world is like it is - and if you or I (or our children) are going to stand a chance of making things better, we've all got to understand the past, because its effects - good and bad - are with us every minute of the day.
Anyway... on this website I hope you'll find out something about 'Secret History', a tiny bit about me, and (I hope) enough to make you want to read one or two of my books...
