It would be wrong to say too much, for fear of disturbing your mental image of Danny. It's enough to say that he was born in 1947 into a farming family in the country that has now become Zimbabwe. Apart from spending a few years at sea, he has lived most of his life in West Sussex, England, commuting to London and trying to stay out of the limelight. Danny's problem is that he has always been too good at what he does; this sometimes leads unscrupulous people to find 'awkward' things for him to do. But Danny is definitely NOT a James Bond lookalike.
On the other hand, when the going gets tough, Danny is likely to flip modes. There's nobody better than him to epitomise that descriptive phrase from the First World War - "Lions led by donkeys". Competent, thoughtful, resourceful, committed, driven, unwilling to give up, and blessed with foresight, I reckon there's something of each of us in Danny, which is why we can all identify with him and his world.
